Invest for Change Project at Lundu primary school in Chikwawa District

The project aims to enhance educational opportunities and improve learning outcomes for children in Chikwawa district, Malawi, with a particular focus on children with special needs and disabilities. Teachers in the district often lack the necessary training, resources, and support to provide inclusive education. According to the Malawi National Education Sector Plan (2018–2023), only 11% of children with disabilities are enrolled in primary education, compared to a national average of 88%. A UNICEF study on disability and development in Malawi highlights that children with disabilities are frequently excluded from school due to stigma, discrimination, and insufficient resources. Additionally, the Chikwawa district education office reports a shortage of special education teachers and support staff, making it challenging to address the specific needs of students with disabilities.

This project seeks to address these challenges by improving access to technology, promoting digital literacy, and building teacher capacity. It will also focus on developing an inclusive curriculum, creating individualized learning plans, and fostering social inclusion. Ultimately, the initiative aims to support 334 students with disabilities, orphans, and other vulnerable children in Chikwawa, preparing them for a more inclusive and equitable future.
