The Her Livestock, Her Wealth project is designed to tackle the pressing challenges of economic insecurity and social exclusion faced by the Tidziwane Women Group in Chikhambi Village, Chikwawa District.
Formed in 2019, the group is made up of 17 women—many living with disabilities, HIV/AIDS, or facing widowhood—who continue to struggle with limited income opportunities and social discrimination. This project provides them with tools, skills, and resources to build sustainable livelihoods and a stronger sense of community.
Construction of kraals (animal shelters) to ensure livestock health and safety
Procurement and establishment of livestock enterprises for long-term income generation
On-farm training in livestock management to strengthen skills and knowledge
Creation of support groups and networks that promote solidarity and shared learning
Regular monitoring and guidance to ensure lasting impact
1. Create Sustainable Livelihoods
We support women living with disabilities, widows, and those affected by HIV/AIDS and other vulnerabilities by providing livestock, training, and essential resources. Through this, they can engage in successful livestock farming—improving nutrition, reducing dependency, and generating reliable household income.
2. Empower Women Economically
By building profitable livestock enterprises, women gain financial independence. Training in financial management and access to local markets enables them to sell livestock and related products, directly improving family well-being and quality of life.
3. Promote Social Inclusion
This project replicates the success of an earlier goat-farming initiative in Chikwawa District. Its sustainable model not only strengthens household economies but also breaks down barriers of discrimination—ensuring that vulnerable women are recognized, respected, and included in community development.
